My career as a professional wedding photographer started 9 years ago and since then I have accumulated tons of experience in wedding photography. I've been in more than 30 weddings. If you ask me wedding photography is possibly one of the most complicated photography genre there is. A good wedding photographer must command at least 4 other genres, like documentary/reportage, sports, fashion and portraits, even more so a good wedding photographer must be able to do that in the most difficult circumstances possible. Wedding photographer must be something like universal soldier, ready to act fast in any situation, adapt and find creative solutions. Wedding photographer must also be in a very good physical shape, as the work demands a lot of strength and stamina.
After all those years and experience I have gained I feel really comfortable at doing wedding photography, nothing can catch me unprepared, I have become a true proffessional.
My wedding photography style. Every good wedding photographer has his own style, and my style can be seen in my pictures, although if I had to describe my style, then I would say that I do classic documentary journalism styletrying to avoid interference in weddings proceedings as much as possible, so that the bride and groom and wedding guests could enjoy the beauty of the wedding day at full. Nevertheless in those critical moments, when necessary I will not hesitate to interfere to enhance the results in pictures, for example I would suggest poses, best places, light etc. Other photographers and video operators with whom Ive been working have remarked my good eye at compositions and light. One could say that I see world through eyes of the camera. For me wedding photography is all about aesthetics, clean images, good compositions, colours and contrast, off course black and white photography has also a special place in my heart. To simplify - I like light, clean and unforced images, without unnecessary drama or post-processing.
Wedding photographers equipment. Guarantee. A good wedding photographer must be very well equipped, weddings are too important event and cannot be repeated in case of technical failure. For that reason I always bring 2 cameras, 2 flashes and multiple lenses to weddings, so that situation can never happen. I also use duplicate memory for storing images on the shoot, and as soon as I finish my work at the venue, I make 2 more duplicates of pictures immediately.
The importance of experience. As mentioned before a good wedding photographer must be able to act and think fast, and without proper experience it is hard - almost impossible. Wedding photographer doesn't have the luxury of plenty of time for experiments, on contrary he always must know what to do in given circumstances. As I have tons of experience, I have developed intuition which helps me to be one step ahed of ongoing events, so that I am always prepared for that best shot.
Wedding photographers attitude. I reckon that a good wedding photographer must be very responsible and treat every wedding in a way he would like his own wedding to be treated. There is no place for "average", "ok" or "it'll do". Every wedding is unique and special. As a wedding photographer off course I have experienced almost everything hundreeds of times, but for the couple that is always first time, so my philosophy is to do best or go home. My goal is to take such pictures that after 10 years, the person seeing pictures of that wedding, either its me, bride or groom - would have big smile on his/her face.
I love wedding photography, these emotions, joy and adventures which I get in weddings working as photographer and also the joy of people seeing results, for me these are invaluable assets. Frequently I tell my friends and clients that in a perfect world I would do this even for free, thats how much I love it.
